For some reason DNN and ZoneAlarm does not get on. You can't login (I guess DNN doesn't test for cookies before login and warn you?). DNN is running on IIS on a XP localmachine.

If I add localhost to the exclusion list (or "site list") still no change in behaviour.
BUT if I switch off Cookie control and ad blocking in zone alarm (it has to be both) DNN starts to work again.

So two questions...

Shouldn't DotNetNuke detect to see if cookies work before it gives you a login screen, and advise you what you need to do if if cookies are blocked? Perhaps the login can be made to work with cookies disabled?

Has anybody managed to get DNN to work with zone alarm cookie control and ad blocking enabled? How did you do it? I'd like to switch it back on.

Many thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

I've had general IIS problems with both ZoneAlarm and Norton's firewall products. They just don't seem geared up for a development PC running IIS.

Kerio did a firewall which was free for personal use, but appears you have to buy it now http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm. I've found their firewall to be far more developer friendly.

Is it just DNN you have problems with or is it any site hosted on your local IIS?

Gavin.

Hi Gavin

I can't say, the only app I have that uses authentication (cookies?) is on this PC. One thing I can say, I have no problems logging onto sites on the internet, including dotnetnuke.com. Excluding localhost from ZoneAlarm's privacy won't work either, nor the local IP address. Privacy (cookies) and banner ad protection just has to be disabled.

Any further ideas on how I can configure ZoneAlarm here?

Cheers

Alex

Hi Alex

That is interesting as I seem to have a zonealarm issue as well and I will have to try your suggestions. Not sure if it is related but I have a proxy server setup which also runs zonealarms. If I try to login to dotnetnuke's web site from one on my machines which goes through the proxy server, I get a 10054 error code which is a bit of a general timeout issue, I think.

I can login to other sites like bank accounts etc OK, seems though any site like www.asp.net, that is using .net 2005 I can not login into. I suspect it is my zonealarms but couldn't figure out which settings might be the culprit. I ruled out the proxy server. I had the latest updates on zonealarms, so I think it must be there. Running version 6.

Just thought that I would share by expereience and I will try your suggestions mentioned above. I had started to look at getting another internet router, thinking something could be wrong there.

Rob
