Sharepoint has a feature for users called "My Alerts".  This feature allows users to subscribe to notifications when certain things happen in a web part (module).

For instance when a new file is added to the Documents module the users who had subscribed to that alert would get notified.  Sharepoint goes as far as to let people get alerts based on edits, deletes, updates, creations.

Lately I have been wanting the same sort of Alert system in DNN.  Of course I could create an Alert Table and than write modules to interact with that alert table.  However, it seems to be that this might be a feature that a lot of other people out in DNN world want.   Which in that case it would be cool if it was added to the core and then was exposed for use by Module Developers, much like the search module.

Any thoughts? Interest? Comments?

This would be cool. I have not looked at the new Event Queue feature - does this not do something similar?

I agree that this would be great! We are using Sharepoint for a business portal and can't use DNN because of this lack of feature.

Sharepoint has a lot of great features... Such as Document Lists, Alerts, and compelete Office Integration.  However, it is very hard to customize.  It is hard to present information in the way you want.

We have switched from Sharepoint to DNN because we can customize DNN and not have to show our users options that they don't have rights to.

Yes, I think I got two Core Team members to concur (if not commit for after 3.x) in this old thread... http://forums.asp.net/thread/719256.aspx
