I am trying to create a new portal but when I enter the user information using the SuperUser or an existing account I get this:

A User Already Exists For the Username Specified. Please Register Again Using A Different Username.

I made up a name and tried it , then the portal creation failed (probably something I did wrong).

BUT -  upon deleting the portal and trying again two things happened.  #1 I got the error above, #2 the user it says "exists" does not exist in under the "users" module so I can't delete it.  So I tried using "host" and also got the error.

The underlying real question is - why couldn't (and why wouldn't) I want to use an EXISTING user for portal creation?

Thanks,

Daryl

You can use an existing user on Portal Creation as long as two conditions are met.

1. The user is NOT a SuperUser.  By definition a SuperUser does not belong to any portal, so you cannot use a SuperUser to create the portal.
2. The username AND password match an existing user.

It is possible that when you deleted the Portal you deleted the User from the dnn tables (but the name remained in the aspnet Tables, which is causing the error).

Thanks Charles.

Yes - the user was not deleted from the "asp_net tables" when the portal was deleted.  I was able to fix this by removing those entries.

In case others are wondering there is a foreign key between these two tables and the entry must be removed from both tables: aspnet_Membership and then aspnet_Users

First look in aspnet_Users to get the correct UserName and then note the UserId and remove that entry (matching the UserId field) from aspnet_Membership FIRST, then you can go back and remove the user from aspnet_Users.

I am still having portal creation issues - when I create the portal I get "Page Cannot be Found" when it goes to create it.  It is probably something stupid I am doing - we shall see.
