Issues, Suggestions & Documentation

The DNN platform is maintained by DNN Corporation and a team of community volunteers. But we are always looking for more help.

Did you find a bug or would you like to fix one that someone else has found?

  • Use our Issue Tracker to tell us about the issue.
    • Provide a summary of the issue including the steps required to reproduce it, what result was expected, and what actually occurred.
    • Attach screen shots if possible.
    • Provide as many details as possible.
    • If you can provide an actual suggested source code fix, that is better still.
  • If you have a code fix for a new bug, or want to submit code to fix an existing issue:
    • Attach the source code to the issue in the Issue Tracker.
    • Submissions are reviewed and checked in by members of the DNN community that we call committers.

Do you have a great idea to improve the DNN Platform?

  • Use Community Voice (link) to make suggestions.
  • Provide additional comments to help us understand more about the suggestion.
  • Once an idea has been reviewed and accepted, we’ll either assign an internal engineering team or work with a team of community members to implement the idea.

Did you find a mistake in the DNN Platform documentation that is published in our wiki or see something that is missing? If so, just login and make the change. The community will thank you.

Beta Testing

DNN publishes two major releases a year and makes early versions of those releases available to our customers for testing and feedback.

  • Community Technology Previews (CTP) are early versions which are made available so that we may get feedback on specific features. CTPs are not feature complete and major changes will likely occur before the final release
  • Betas are feature complete versions of the software which are still undergoing testing and issue resolution. The features should all be pretty close to completion with just minor polish and bug fixes occuring before the release.
  • Release Candidates (RC) are versions which we feel might be ready for release. RCs will go through a final round of verification tests to determine if the platform is stable enough for release or if there are critical issues which need to be fixed before the final release.

Beta tester requests for DNN Platform are formally announced on the DNN company blog. Pre-release versions of Evoq are offered to existing Evoq customers.

Open Source & Licensing

Open Source

Open source means more than access to source code. It also means free distribution and a lot more. For a complete definition see opensource.org.

Permissive License

We try to place as few restrictions on the DNN Platform user as possible. Users can to do almost anything with the software as long as they don’t remove our copyright notices.

Freedom vs. Free

Open source is a lot more about permissions than price. While open source software such as the DNN Platform is indeed free, the most important points about it have to do with the freedoms and responsibilities of people who use and enhance it.
