DNN Summit is an annual conference organized by DNN Association, a non-profit organization led by volunteers from the DNN community. Earlier, DNN Association announced details of DNN Summit 2018, which will take place February 6-10 in Denver, Colorado.
Registration for DNN Summit 2018 is now open! You can find details and purchase tickets on the conference's ticketing page. Based on my experience attending DNN Summit 2017 (I had a blast!), here are my suggestions on how to get the most out of your 2018 summit experience.
Stay the Weekend
The core activities of this year's conference run Tuesday through Thursday, February 6-8, which leads perfectly into the weekend activities, "DNN on the Slopes."
Important note: you don't have to ski or snowboard in order to be part of the fun! There are other outdoor activities you can do on the mountain, or you can simply soak in a hot tub until the others come off the mountain. Also, there’s a tubing activity on Friday, February 9.
During DNN Summit 2017, all of the tubing participants (myself included) linked our tubes by connecting arms and legs to one another. We descended the mountain as a single, large, interconnected tube. If that wasn’t a fitting way to symbolize "community," then I don’t know what is.
Why stay the weekend: Because you'll have a great time getting to know members of the DNN community in a non-work, non-conference setting.
Sign Up for DNN Training
I didn’t attend the training sessions last year, but heard great things about them from DNN users and Evoq customers. The instructors for the 2018 summit training are among the top DNN experts in the community.
The training options include:
Introduction to DNN (with Ryan Moore)
DNN Administration (with Aderson Oliveira)
DNN Theming (with Anthony Overkamp)
DNN Development (with Scott Wilkinson)
If you want to learn DNN, or take things to the next level, then sign up for one of these courses.
Network with Others
It's not hard to make conversation at DNN Summit, since everyone is a DNN user. At a typical conference, you might ask, “What type of work are you in?” At DNN Summit, an opening question goes like this: “How long have you been using DNN?”
Bonus points if the person answering mentions IBuySpy Workshop
To get the most out of Summit, mingle with others every chance you get. You’ll meet DNN users, DNN MVPs, longtime community members and maybe a DNN Corp. employee or two. Since we’re all DNN users, chances are we can help each other out.
Don’t Stay Out Too Late at Night
The evening activities at Summit are aptly named "DNN After Dark." Have fun, so long as you don't see the sun rise! Get a good night's sleep, so you can get the next day started off right. Breakfast is typically served around 8am and the sessions start around 9am.
On the Thursday evening of the conference, get enough sleep so you can make the most of "DNN on the Slopes," which starts the next day.
Catch Ron Miles’ Latest Hit Single
The DNN Yeti is the unofficial mascot of DNN Summit. In 2017, DNN community member Ron Miles wrote, produced and recorded the DNN Yeti Song:
Based on some tweets I saw from Ron, he’s planning on unveiling a new song for the 2018 conference. He might even perform it live. You don’t want to miss that.
Register, Register!
You won’t be able to get much out of DNN Summit 2018 if you don’t register. Note that tickets include attendance of the event and some meals, but does NOT include the cost of your hotel room. Tickets for “DNN on the Slopes” will be available on the ticketing page as soon as pricing is available.
