ok, I've gotten DNN 4.04 installed on a hosting service (1and1.com) .. who say they support ASP.Net and 2.0 framework, and well it seems that way as I get the site "appearing" most of the time.

BUT, on many occations I get a FileIO permissions error and its really starting to make things difficult in setting up a site, when I have to keep redoing things.. or reloading the site as I'm stuck in an error process it's just frustrating.

any help on this will be greatly appreciated.. my provider tries to blame it on DNN, but I really have a feeling its a configuration error on their part.

so below is the error message I'm see:

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. ---> System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. at System.Security.CodeAccessSecurityEngine.Check(Object demand, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean isPermSet) at System.Security.CodeAccessPermission.Demand() at System.IO.Path.GetFullPath(String path) at System.Web.Util.FileUtil.IsSuspiciousPhysicalPath(String physicalPath, Boolean& pathTooLong) at System.Web.Util.FileUtil.IsSuspiciousPhysicalPath(String physicalPath) at System.Web.CachedPathData.GetConfigPathData(String configPath) at System.Web.CachedPathData.GetConfigPathData(String configPath) at System.Web.Configuration.WebConfigurationManager.GetWebApplicationSection(String sectionName) at DotNetNuke.Framework.Providers.ProviderConfiguration.GetProviderConfiguration(String strProvider) at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateObject(String ObjectProviderType, String ObjectProviderName, String ObjectNamespace, String ObjectAssemblyName, Boolean UseCache) at DotNetNuke.Modules.NavigationProvider.NavigationProvider.Instance(String FriendlyName) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.NavObjectBase.InitializeNavControl(Control objParent, String strDefaultProvider) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.SolPartMenu.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl(Control control, Int32 index) at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnInit(EventArgs e) at DotNetNuke.Framework.PageBase.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) The action that failed was: Demand The type of the first permission that failed was: System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Go to Host > Host Settings + Advanced Settings + Performance Settings : Module Caching Method

If it is set for Disk, change it to Memory, then click on Update and Restart Application.

Gave this a try, but still seems to happen, even after fixing the not being able to update stuff (which I found the solution to that in another thread)..

I've experienced the same issue with 1and1; I think they have problems with their Webfiles application on the backend, because I could reapply the (full) rights to my application directory (and all sub-directories) and it would resolve the issue temporarily.

Combined with the performance that I've received using 1and1 Windows shared hosting (even the most simple ASP pages take upwards of 5 seconds to load,) I'm switching hosts.

You can try to contact your hosting provider and have them provide full read/write access to the ASP.NET worker process for your DNN install.
