I have used Scott McCulloch's Simple Gallery for a long time now (almost 2 years) and it's great!  You can upload zip files to the gallery that have multiple photos in them.  I like this gallery module because it really is simple to use if you want allow regular users to maintain albums.

It's also rock solid and has good support.  I only had one small problem in almost 2 years and I emailed Scott.  He had an answer for me the next morning and the problem was fixed.  When you are looking for DNN modules one point to consider is support and longevity of the module and developer.  I personally try to only buy modules from developers that have been supporting DNN for a long time and will likely continue in the future.  My websites will be around for years and I need module support for years to come as well.  I have bought XMOD, ActiveForums, Simple Gallery and others.  They are all from top developers and I'm happy with them all.

One I've used with success is Seamless Album.  It lets you upload your photos with ftp, then synchronizes itself to your ftp folder and automatically creates thumbnails for you.

After some experimentation with the Gallery module, I've found a way to upload files with ftp.  When you create an album it puts it in a path similar to "/Portals/0/Gallery/123/MyAlbum".  In that directory you will find a folder named "_source".  Simply ftp your photos to the _source directory.  Then in DNN open the empty album and click on "Maintenance" in the pulldown menu.  You should then see a list of the files you just ftped with checkmarks in the source column.  Click on "Check All" so that all the boxes in the rightmost column are checked.  Then click on the Syncronize link.  It will then generate your thumbnails and populate the album.  It will use the file names to generate the title of each photo, so you still may need to edit that individually, but this method will still save you a lot of work.

(This was all done under DNN 4.4.1 with Gallery 03.01.12)

I have been doing this with the standard gallery module in 4.4.1 by zipping all images into a .zip file, and using file manager to upload and unpack the zip file into the respective gallery folder.  It is working like a charm!
