No, I have not installed any modules that allows HTTP compression.

And to my knowledge this is not supported by default in version 4.3.7. or am I wrong in this?

(We haven't installed 4.4.x yet)

I have not found anything in web.config about "compression" or "compr" even. (nor is there a compression.config on the DNN root)

Could not find any settings in host settings or admin settings either.

You are correct, I didn't pay close enough attention to your orig message and thoght you were on 4.4.x

I have done some google searches and also searched MSDN I can't think of anything specific.  Are you by chance using SSL on your site?

I would suggest that you reparse all your skins and containers to eliminate that as another possible cause.
