Hello all...

I just installed the software and I have been poking around.  So far I like what I see.

However, I am not able to find a couple of things.  I am sure they are supported but I just don't see them.

  • How do I create a panel with a form in it?  I want to create a form that emails me the contents of the fields.
  • How do I create a panel that has custom content from a database table?

I apologize again for the newbie questions.  I just don't see these 2 things addressed anywhere.  The online help makes no mention of them.  If you can point me to a deeper help file I would apreciate it.

A1:
I have no practical experience with forms in DNN myself so far, so I cannot make recommendations, but try the feedback module, which allows visitors to send messages to the Administrator of the portal.

If that's not enough, try one of the third party form modules listed on the community modules pages.

A2:
Hmm, sounds like you have to write your own module to do this. I hope you're a ASP.NET programmer - I'm not, sorry! But have a look at the pdf docs you can download from the download section, especially at the Module Developers Guide. Good luck!

Let's start by using the terminology specific to DNN.  You need a pane, not panel, in order to insert forms or any other sort of end user functionality into DNN.  In order to create a pane you need to create a skin.  Read the skinning documentation. Once this is done, you can use the several DNN modules or a variety of other 3rd party modules to display database info in these panes.

You can buy modules that will most likely do what you need. If you want to program your own modules it is recommended that you read the Module developer's Guide from the link noted above.

If you have little patience  try this 3 page tutorial that should take you 10 minutes to complete (not counting set-up) to get you started:
