I am about to move my best client away from the old 1.1 VS2003 site to DNN. Doing so involved throwing away thousands of pounds spent developing a member login and a few features.  With a DNN site that I spent only two days on I was able to convince them it was a no-brainer.  Thank you DNN.

My question is about e-commerce and speed.
I see that many informed DNNers are using Catalook - this is an excellent fit for my client.
I have seen some quite fast examples that include Snapsis compression but for this new site speed is everything as the 1.1 site was very fast.

It occurred to me that many Members and visitors to the site will have no need of the e-commerce app so why load all of that until its needed ?

Would it make sense to put the catalook install on another portal or even a domain ?
I have a sideways reason for wanting to ring fence this a bit as I am hoping that soon a company such as asp store front will make a DNN version but the main ain is to have the fasted site possible.

I can see ways to deal with inter-site or portal module communication, so I can link events to items/tickets, but am unsure of how to get logins and roles to persist across domains or portals or even if this is the right approach.

 Any insights gratefully received.

 Thanks
