Again, i am not seeing a use case for having a per-item setting for the publish date. If you want something like that, you'd more likely want to use UDT (which can you cam make do that)

I know exactly the problem you were having, glad you figured it out.  I spent about five minutes on the phone the other day trying to explain to someone that the date shown was the date they "created" the announcement, not the date of the actual event.  She kept telling me that the event wasn't that day, and that is not the day she entered, and I'd tell her that was the date she created the announcement for the event, not the date of the event itself, etc...  Then the conversation would repeat itself over and over.  No matter what I said she could not differentiate between the two...

Finally, I just said "I'll fix it", hung up and removed the published date from the template...  How frustrating!
