For my dnn site (4.3.5), now i need about 15-20 seconds to load the startup page.

I know that keep on pinging the site may improve the performance. However, since the server is not hosted by me and i cannot perform such strategy.

I am wondering what else i can do to keep the site live and running. Or other methods to do it?

any suggestions?

Thank you

Monitor it with a service like http://host-tracker.com

Thank you.

But i would like to know if there are alternative ways that no need to rely on third party?

Meanwhile, i read an article that version 4.4 has improved this problem, isn't it?

Thank you.

you could also use smarter tools smarterping. thats a free utility that can run as a service on your server (or on any other pc)

DNN 4.4.x has a lot of performance enhancements, one of which is a more leaner distribution. In the default distribution only the HTML and the Links module are installed. You might want to check your dnn install for installed modules that you never use. During startup of the application, all dll's are loaded in the app domain, the more dll's exist in the bin folder, the longer this will take

I would advice you to upgrade to dnn 4.4.1, you will find that it will perform a lot faster....

DNN 4.4.1 is a lot faster once it is up and running, but it is not noticeably faster on the intial startup of the site has cycled down.

You might try the free PageBlaster module.  It makes startup a little faster because your pages are cached on disk, so they don't need to be rebuilt on initial startup.

Running a keep-alive service is the only way you will keep it from having that initial startup lag though.

If you don't want to use a keep alive, then just make sure you have enough traffic that your site is nver idle for more than 20 minutes.
