I am curious to know what is better?

I virtual dedicated with 1024 megs or ram or a Dedicated box with 512 mb of ram?

On the virtual box. Do all members share the same 1024?

I want to run DNN, Flash communication server& MS SQL Server.

512 not a good option. It will run badly with all those things you want to run on there.

Even 1024 may have a challenge.  I've worked with Virtual PC and it is good for running smaller sites.  I'm running a machine with 8gb of ram, and DNN still manages to bring it to a grinding halt.

But 1024 virtual is a better way to go than a 512 dedicated.  I have to tell you home XP machines are getting more ram these days.. and SQL is greedy, so you're going to have a challenge if you're looking at putting on alot of sites.

What is the purpose of this server? Your own single business site?  Have you looked at the specs each one of those apps uses.. eg. Communications Server and SQL?  It might be good to check it out first since the last you want is a slow site because all the memory is eaten up by SQL.

Thanks for your input Nina, It is very well appreciated! I am in the midst of running a social networking website which branches off into three different niche's. I have an AVchat room and the SQL Server, as you know , for DNN. I did check the specs of the Flash Comm Server MX (the older one) and it seems like the boxes should handle it. You must have one heck of a site, running 8 gigs of ram!!! My plan is to run all the application on this one box until site traffic wonderfully becomes an issue. I would then move flash comm onto its' own box and tunnel in to the for mentioned box.
I know this sounds small time, but if I could get my website rolling with 3000 active members in the next 4 months I would be very happy! Do you have any suggestions of any good hosting companies that are not that expensive?
