Hi all

I've tried to find the answer but there is so much information that I'm going blind. :)

How exactly is a full width skin MADE different from a fixed width skin? Why is fixed width the defacto standard? IMO, to me, no offense meant, many skins look awful when they only take up the middle third of my monitor.

What tricks can be used to make full width the standard?

Thanks

If you examin the default skins, you will find that the main table in the skins have the width set to 100%

If that's all there is to it, all skins would be full width. So what other considerations are involved?

The reason for fixed skin is theat it should bee readable in all monitors not just your monitor.

Another benefit is that you can decide how the reader will see the page. In full widh pages like yours will be harder to read. Take your Software pages as an example. The text there are a bad examples on how text should bee.

Look at all newspapers sites you will learn.

You're referring to the Software pages on my site? I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. We are taught to read left to right. It does not matter how wide the text proceeds. Just because lots of people do something seldom means it's the right way to do things.

Full-width seems to start at 800x600 and extends as wide as necessary.

This only takes up half my screen. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/02/11/cn-strike.html?ref=rss

The physical media utilize the white-space of the entire page. I've never seen a newspaper or magazine article that left half the lateral sides of the page blank.
