OK, heres the deal...win serv 2003, iis6, asp.net v2.0, mssql 2005 express.  I have done everything according to the installation instructions but when i try to open the portal i get the error noted below.  The part that confuses me is all the permissions seem to be set correctly.  The DNN folder is in 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\' and i have the permissions for NETWORK SYSTEM set for the DNN folder.  i have also tried putting the folder (with the appropriate permissions) on 'c:\' , also tried putting the permissions on the 'c:\wwwroot' as well as 'c:\inetpub'.  Every time i get the same error below.  Am i just being an idiot and misinterpreting the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE?? The way i understand it is NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE = [server name]\NETWORK SERVICE...any help would be greatly appreciated, thx in advance

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Enable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
- the {Server}\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

If using Windows 2003 - IIS6
- the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

Object not set to an instance of an object doesn't sound like a permissions error. It sounds like a bad reference call to me.  Of course that could be caused by permissions (I should be a politician).  Are you letting your child folders and files inherit from the parent?  What do you see in your IIS logs?

Hello,

I actually give the permission to the dnninstallation/website folder.
That works for me.

According to the event viewer there is an "sqlException"  here is an excerpt from the error message:

Exception information:
    Exception type: SqlException
Exception message: Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.GetPortals'.

Sounds like the install of the DNN site didn't go well.

You can force an install, but I can't think of the syntax off my head.  It is in the DNN Documentation I am sure.

If that doesn't work you might scrap your delete your DNN database and delete your IIS folder and try again.
