Hi - I  have been working for some time on a portal hosted on Oracle and DNN 4.3.5 and struggling with performance.  In our case I have identified 2 causes:

1) Slow startup - the site is not widely used at the moment as it's in testing.  The first time the site is hit after a period of inactivity it takes a long time to fire up - not great from the clients point of view.  We fixed by using a text browser to poll the site periodically.
2) CPU pegged at 100% and long waits when IE hits the site - I develop using Firefox so didn't see the reason for the client's performance complaints for a while.  It turns out that there is some interaction between the line:
    <meta http-equiv="PAGE-ENTER" content="RevealTrans(Duration=0,Transition=1)">
and the included JavaScript files.  I haven't worked through all the details yet but by commenting out the above line in the default.aspx file I now have a site that performs as you would wish.

I don't understand the reason for the RevealTrans filter, removing it seems to have had no noticable effect on the site other than that there is no wait for the page to load.  Putting it back in means waits of up to 10 minutes running IE 6 (but not 7) even on a moderately fast machine.

Has anyone else hit the problem?  Does anyone understand what is going on?  Have I fixed a problem or broken something else???

Thanks.

That RevealTrans was actually added to make people feel like it was a little faster.  Its supposed to start showing the page faster, but I never noticed a difference.

Here is a blog on it:

Your first item is something that is unavoidable with ASP.NET due to the worker process unloading after a specific amount of inactivity.

Thanks - I'd seen the blog but didn't find it that informative on this issue.  I'm puzzled about the poor performance we're seeing and I'm trying to figure out whether this is a general issue that others are aware of (and if so how exactly it comes about), or if it's peculiar to our site.  If the latter then there may be others that would like to know how we fixed it.

Thanks - we figured this out in the end.  I felt that by mentioning it here it may save others the pain of having to figure it out for themselves and find a solution.
