I do not think this is currently supported in DotNetNuke (I may be wrong and please tell me if I am as I am fairly new to DNN), however I'm curious as to how many people out there would find this useful other than myself.  Basically I would like some way to have dynamic width containers, so that I could use 1 page layout "skin" for several minorly different actual page confgurations.  By having a dynamic width specifier, instead of needing to create either several containers with different width specifications or several layouts each a table setup to control the widths of the containers, you would just need 1 container with an adjustable width.

The way I would envisioning the system working, would be similiar to the content pane.  In each container file, a designer would be allowed to specify 1 table with a runat="server" attribute and pre-defined name such as "WidthControlTable".  If that is defined in the container file, a new setting would appear for the container (or you can add it for all containers and it just be ignored for a container not designed to use it) that would allow you to specify the container width.  When the page is rendered it would then use this information and allow for much more portability and reuse of container structures.

Where it would help me, is in a layout where I either have 3 columns across the top or across the bottom and then in a different area have 2 or 4 across the top or bottom but the same styling.  Rather than creating 1 container each for widths of 25%, 33%, and 50% or a new page layout for each style, I could simply use 1 container and set the width property.

Anyone else find this useful, or does it already exist and I don't know about it?

There's a custom module available on SnowCovered for doing this, it's called "Module Wrapper".

While that is a nice product, I think it adds much more than I'd be looking for and carries a price tag to go with it.  It wouldn't be as bad, if the enterprise license was restributable or if they had a redistributable license, but to add the overhead of $30 to every skin developed is a bit much for the simple feature of that package we'd be using.

We are most likely just going to create our own "Module Wrapper" or just a custom Text/HTML module allowing width specifications.

I just think making this relatively minor change at the basic module level to give support for this feature to all modules, would be great enhancement to an already great software package.
