When I tried out DNN last summer, I remember that it came with several pre-defined templates, DNN, Club, etc.

But the only one that seems to come with 4.4.1 is the DNN template.

Where can I get the others?  Will the old ones from prior versions work?

Try downloading older version of DNN from the download section.

Alternatively, you can create your own templates :)

I pulled out the templates from the 4.0.1 code, but the guestbook module did not install.  What module did it use?  Contacts?

Nice catch.

Actually it did not use contacts or anything else for that matter. That page was always created empty (no module in it).

:)

If you are looking for a guestbook, I remember a beta version of feedback had one integrated, but it is no longer on the feature list. I remember also, that Team member Michael Washington released a simple guest book as programming demo, have a look at his site.
