Hi all,

I m just installing the sql server 2005 express edition, downloaded the latest dotnetnuke, what i put in the c:\DotNetNuke\ dir.
When I installed sql, I chose mixed authentication, and setup a passw for sa user. After install I didn't change anything in the sql server.Create a server instance, Inth and create a new database named DotNetNuke, so one of my question is , do I have to modify the database directory, for example do I have to put in the dotnetnuke directory? In the case I leave it in the default location, the whole thing would run on the localhost, so not in the remote server.
So the next thing is to modify the web.config file, and add my connection string. As I read the comments, a lots of user asked the same question about the connection strings.

A small detail about my web.config file about the connections:

<connectionStrings>
      <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|DotNetNuke.mdf;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
      </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
       <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|DotNetNuke.mdf;"/>

Do I have to add my server name, or .\SQLExpress is enough, and that |DataDirectory| means what? Oh and Im using server authenticate so I should add my login and password, but how and where.
I run with this configuration and I got this error message:

.

Current Assembly Version: 04.04.01

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

Please Im a really beginner, I used to code in asp, but this is different, I have issues with sql server 2005, we don't like each other. If someone could help me I would really apreciate it.

Thanks all,

               Tamas

be careful, either use default SQL Express connection string unmodified (except you renamed the SQL server instance) or use classical SQL Server 2000/2005 connection string with login credentials (my preferred way), but in this case you need to manually create the database yourself and provide a database user (I recommend not to use sa for security reasons). There has been a blog post by Shaun Mehaffie a few months ago regarding this subject here on DNN.com.
