I guess i should create a second virtual directory and put our legacy software there with a link to it form the primary website which will be designed on top of DNN. Then they both may even be using the same database, i don't see any problems there and off course the username can be encrypted and passed by IFrame or as URL paramter to the legacy application. This way they would run on two seperate namespaces, one:  ASP.NET 2.0 and the other ASP.NET 1.1 (the legacy sofware). Is this a correct assumption?

That should work, if I am understanding you correctly.  The nice thing about using IFrame is that the source could be an ASP.NET application running on the same server, or even a PHP/Perl/Ruby application running on a different server (as far as I know).

You are correct about passing the username via the URL.  Other parameters could be passed as well (displayname, userid, etc).
