I agree that PowerDNN is a good option. I have several dedicated servers there and they treat me right. If you consider PowerDNN, tell Tony that Cliff sent you.

But I also run SmarterMail 4 on my dedicated servers. I do know that SPAM is just a huge problem and there seems to have been major increases in SPAM in the last 3-5 months; but then again, it seems like we are pretty much saying that every year now.

SM 4 uses SpamAssasin as an add-in. But how the SM4 is configured is what makes the difference. Many hosts might allow even SPAM HIGH to pass through and then let users filter their own mail. I send all SPAM HIGH to junk for all my users and then allow SPAM MED and below to be filtered by users. My clients seemed to stop complaining as much when I did this.

Also, SM4 people suggest using Greylisting, which can be done in SM4. You can do some research on this.

Another option is to ask your host to allow domain level configuration of SM4, so that you can control the SPAM settings on your domain. That might not be an option for your hosts' business model, but it can be done.
