i have got dnn3 and  it  runs main site and 3 child portals, now when i look in ftp i can see portals/0 portals/5. then portals/44 and  sure there is default... i was wondering why it gave such a random numbers to my child portals? very difficult to remember which is which.... but also there are folders with child portal names in wwwroot.... those are easier to understand since they  are named by me...could you please tell me why 1 child portal has 2 folders ? and what could be the use for 2 folders ( like can't you just use 1 folder for 1 portal )

each portal (either parent or child) will have a folder in the Portals folder (and there will always be a _default folder which is used by the host). The number is based on the database sequence, so it keeps incrementing if you add and then delete child or parent portals (often jumps in portalID are because you install to a database you've previously used). Child folders get directories created so that we can parse the address and determine the portalID to use, before redirecting to the root. This is not necessary with parent portals as they're already at the root level.

if you have created child portals (like www.mydomain.com/myportal), an additional folder myportal is created with a default.aspx inside, that is needed for redirection.
