Yay... Take Me to the Community!

Welcome to the DNN Community Forums, your preferred source of online community support for all things related to DNN.

I think that the DNN website needs a file sharing area for people to post unofficial modifications...

A couple of examples are - alterations of code / free modules that developers don't mind sharing but will be unsupported...

Free skin files that developers have created and don't mind sharing.

Free module alterations (such as new themes for the gallery module) that developers don't mind sharing.

Perhaps there is already a place for this - but if there is I havn't found it.  I just spent a few hours making a Theme for the gallery that strips out all of the 'decoration' images and provides a more professional look - i'm sure i'm not the only one that's done this, but there was no fast place for me to look.  I would happily upload a lot of my work to the community, but there is just no good organized centralized place to do so...

comments?  thoughts?

I may even consider starting my own site for this purpose - but I would only do it because nobody else was, I would rather not try to compete...   if the the DNN corp wanted, i would donate time to setup and help maintain this file sharing area.

My understanding is the the DNN team only wants to promote those products offered by the benefactors to the DNN project as that is all that is listed on the site as of now.  I fully understand their reasoning behind this.

If there is interest, I happen to own a URL that would be quite handy for sharing this information and I would be willing to set it up if there is enough demand....

Once the wiki project is released, we'll be looking to add a wiki section to dotnetnuke.com. This would allow users to contribute much of what you want, and to add links to any downloadable resources. I don't think we'd want to start hosting user downloads for a number of reasons (additional bandwidth/potential copyright issues/general admin), but there are a number of locations such as codeplex.com/sourceforge where it's easy enough to get space to host content (i notice dnn modules on both those already), and we could simply add a link to the content in the wiki. I'm a big fan of the wiki concept in general, as it gives the community a chance to contribute easily.
