Jared, I agree that these sort of things should be defined a little better. I would take it further and say the entire way you modify this sort of thing should be modified. The skinning engine is great, but there are so many times that you install a module it throws off all your hard work at developing a skin. Would be a good enhancement to the module settings if the was a mechanism to override styles used for items such as the module title font, changing text colors, etc..

As far as your question about Normal, Subhead, etc.. A lot of these classes are a left over from the IBuySpy Portal days where DNN originally started.

What about the things that aren't covered in the DNN Module Developer's Guide?

You know I purposely left a bunch of stuff out of the Module Developer's Guide. I think if you try to insist on too many things it lessens the impact of the things you feel really are important. Things like install, uninstall, upgrade, a DAL/DAL+ "layer", NaigateURL or Module Action for navigation, and localization (I don't always follow that one) are important.

In my opinion install and uninstall and upgrade are a must. If a module developer doesn't follow that then the module is unacceptable in my opinion.

Hi Michaell

Where can I find the best (ie clearest and most up to date) description of the upgrade requirement that you feel is essential?

I can respect that.  I agree, especially as a document intended for 3rd-party module developers, it is much more critical to cover things that make modules function correctly.  I would hope that modules availble as projects from DotNetNuke itself (Gallery, Blog, Events, Media, etc.) are required to meet those criteria before getting released.  Then, on top of that, there might be the chance to suggest standard UI/HTML/CSS practices.

Are my assumptions correct, or even close to correct?  I really don't know much about how the core team works, or what's involved in the release process for individual projects.  For all I know, it's all you can do to get the DNN projects to follow the guidelines, and thus adding further suggestions isn't really going to help.
