Currently I am running a community website on a GoDaddy server with a manual install.

I want more control over my DotNetNuke website so I am considering purchasing a network server for my home and move the website there. I have a DSL line.

Could you reommend a server brand/model such as Dell, and what software would you recommend?

it depends on the needs of your site, how much performance you shall choose. Please take care to use enough RAM, if there are both, web server and sql server (express) on the same machine, hdd size is usually not that important, unless you plan to run a virtual video store or radio station.

I will be running a basic community website with basically a chatroom and a forum. I plan on having at least 2 gigs of memory. So what do you think now? No stores, nothing requiring a lot of memory. Will be running on static DSL.

it might depend on the chat and forum modules you use, how many memory is taken, I have heared of chat installations, where the module consumed 100% of cpu, when more than 10 users took part, so you will need to test, but I would recommend at least 2 Gig of memory and 2 cpu.
