I am trying to install DNN locally for development per the instructions on:

http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN4_DevelopmentEnvironment_noIIS/

I have 2 questions.

1) I made it all the way to the "The site sets up using the default settings that are set to use SQL Server Express" part of the instructions. However, this is what I recive on my web page:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.04.01

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

----------

I am using Visual Studio 2005 Professional (not express) and MS SQL 2005 (Not express).

2) What is the difference of IIS and not IIS. Just curious to know which to use. I assumed since I didn't know if I wanted it, I didn't :-)

Thanks!

Gabe

Am I the only one that had this problem?

No, I am having this problem, too.  In fact, my 4.4.1 source code didn't build out of the box.

I had the same error and finally figured it out after numerous attempts of different fixes.  The fix that finally worked was changing the security settings on the App_Data\Database.mdf and App_Data\Database_log.ldf files.  I am using Windows XP and SQL Server Express.  I added to the Security settings of these two files my local ASP.NET account, I gave full access.  In previous attempts, I also gave the ASP.NET full access to the website directory.  It appears that the Database files have their own security settings and not relying on the directory access settings, so they had to be set specifically.

That sounds great that you got it fixed - gives me hope! But I was wondering if you could tell me how to fix it, in maybe just a little more laymen? :-) I think I understand the jist of it, but the ho-to details I am a little lost with. Either way, thanks for writing!
