Is there a possibility that you overwrote the values of your MachineValidationKey and MachineDecryptionKey in your web.config?  These values are used by ASP.Net to encrypt and decrypt the passwords your users enter.  If these values have been lost ( i.e. overwritten without a backup )... that would be a problem.

If this is your issue, then restoring the keys will re-enable the users who registered prior to the change.  But users who have registered since the change will now have the wrong key.  Try registering a new user... and try sending yourself a password reminder... let us know what happens.

Actually this was the issue after all.  I had no idea that this key was actually the one used in encryption, but now that I know it will be easier in the future for further updates and upgardes.  I had actually manually went in after signing up for a new account changed the passwords encrypted value with that of the new account.  This allowed me to login, which I had to do for each account.

HELP

I never touched the keys in the web.config file but still get this same error during a clean install (3.2.2) to a Interland host site
