I'm running a site using 4.4.1 on our RedFoxHosting account. We've got a few commercial modules added to the base set (UltraMediaGallery, EvotivaBackupScript, ActiveForums) but none that have been added recently.

As part of the RFH IIS configuration, they recycle the application thread pool once every 45 minutes.

Most of the time this causes our site at most 20 seconds of disturbance - basically the first hit takes 20 seconds to respond.

However, since March 2nd, we've been seeing random occurrences where the application restart takes anywhere from 3 to 30 minutes. During this restart time, all webhits are just seen as "very slow" - e.g. Firefox just sits there loading.... so this isn't a 404 or 500 error, just a very slow response.

These occurrences are occurring perhaps on average of one a day - so on average once every 30 restarts.

We're using host-tracker.com to monitor these, and we're also looking in the DNN event log for information. The information we see in the DNN event log is just the APPLICATION_STOPPED message (occurring when the thread pool is recycled) and the APPLICATION_STARTED message 5 to 30 minutes later (which is reported 5 to 30 minutes later even though we know the webhits are always coming in within one minute).

We've still no idea what happened on the 2nd March to start this happening.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing these occasional slow restarts?

Does anyone have any suggestions about how we can get additional debug information out?

Thanks for any ideas!

I guess I'm on my own then.

At least this tells me it's not a commonly seen DNN problem - so I suspect its either in some particular module or in the hosting environment.

Thanks

slodge :-)
