Did you have backup the old web.config of  DNN 4.3.7 and have you set the settings for Database, MashineKeys of the 4.3.7 to the 4.4.1 web.config ?

It shows me tho this problem, that you have forgot this.

Regards

Matthias

Yes actually I did do all of this.   however when I upgraded from 4.3.5 to 4.3.7 I could never get the new web.config to work so I used the old one from the 4.3.5 version.  I didn't seem to have any problem doing this.  But with the 4.4.1 I did make changes to the release.config and then renamed it to web.config and I got the error as listed above.  I then tryed to use my original web.config file and that didn't fix the problem.  I've reverted back to the 4.3.7 but would really like to get the upgrade working for sure.  I don't want to be stuck on an old version when new ones are updated all the time....Any other suggestions....  would browsing the site before the new config file was loaded cause a problem? or not?  I looked at the config file till I was cross eyed and everything looked good.

Making shure, that make this chages from the old web.config to the new web.config (release.config and save as web.config) :

  • 2 times the databse settings
  • the mashine keys
  • if you have changed to the fck editor, the HTML editor settings
  • databaseowner

These are the must for chages.  If this do not have the effects, please check your folder permission setting!

If still are error messages please look in the install log and post here any errors of the LOG, like SqlDataProviders. Logfiles you are find in the Provider Folder !

Matthias

Okay, I will try again....I'm having a bit of trouble with wh4l right now.  I did a restore back to 4.3.5 and have been trying for the last two days to do an upgrade to 4.3.7 but ftp isn't working and wh4l support is not so good these days.  I think they are having many issues.  Once I get the 4.3.7 upgrade done I will then do the 4.4.1.  Or can I go from 4.3.5 to 4.4.1 without doing the 4.3.7 upgrade?
