we are currently setting up our portal to allow our ( non technical ) regional managers to add (page templates/copying pages) pages to thier own regional page. As you can understand we only want them to have the ability to add a page and only allow them access to a couple of modules on each page. The page will then go for approval to an area manager then final publlishing through an editor. We have the area manager approval, and the final editor part sorted (using content manager) but would appreciatte any suggestions as to how to give regional managers as little rope as possible. We would like to lock down the page as much as possible and also it is as simple as possible for them. Does anyone have a similar setup?

Thanks

I would suggest creating the page you want with the modules you want on it and then use it as a template. I'd add dummy content into each module too so they know exactly what you want them to do and only give them access to add/edit the module content. This lets you control the modules they have access to so all of the pages stay uniformed.

You should set the pages as visible only to Admin and 'Regional Manager' roles until they have been approved by the Editor who can then set them as visible to All Users. By only give them module editing rights, rather that Page Editor rights you will encounter less issues and they will be less frightened by the task! Good luck.

Thanks Lorraine that sounds close to what I have in mind. Does your method involve me creating the page or would reg managers be able to create their own pages. The idea is for the reg managers to be responsible for the content and an approver to approve and for me not to be involved. I've had a go at finding out about setting up accounts and working with privelidges but I've not had much luck. All I've found is the help files and as far as I can tell they only outline basic role creation. I would have thought that one of the purposes of a content management system would be to enable content creation by non IT staff, there by freeing IT staff to do more interesting stuff like surfing the net or pondering life's problems and not having to check content(I digress).
Lorraine if you or if anyone knows where I could find more info on user roles/priviledges I would be most grateful, thanks again

My idea does require you (or someone else) to create the pages for the Reg Managers. Perhaps I'm not very trusting. :)

An alternative would be to add a page called say "Regional Managers" and set the Permissions for this page as Edit Page for the "Regional Managers" role. They could then add their own page under this page but not under other pages on the website. The draw back is that they could also update each others pages. If you go down this road, I'd suggest a simple How To document showing them how to Add Page with the settings you want such as the required page template etc.

Regarding help, I'm guessing you are referring to http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/DotNetNukeOnlineHelp/tabid/787/Default.aspx right? I am the author of this resource and am currently updating Online Help for DNN 4.5.0 so I will keep your comments in mind. Thanks.
