Hi there,

I am new to DNN and it looks like a really fantastic solution, but does anyone know if there is a WYSIWYG Skin Builder/Creator for DNN e.g. allows skin building without any technical/coding knowledge?

Any ideas or suggestions much appreciated.

Kr,

DNN supports skins that are designed as html pages, and as such, you could use any wysiwyg html editor to design one.

In doing so, there will be an external xml file that will need to be modified, but that should not be beyond the abilities of most anyone. Since the format is xml, one could in theory write a designer for this task as well, though I am not aware of one that currently exists.

So, the answer to your question is mostly yes -- one could design a skin with very little technical knowledge, and no coding knowledge is required at all.

See the skin docs for more details. They're in the downloads section at the top of the page.

Hope this helps!

Hi Brandon,

Many thanks for your response. I have downloaded the DNN Skinning pdf, unfortunately on some of it makes sense at the moment.

Do you (or others) have any recommendations on a WYSIWYG HTML program that would be easy to use and compatible with DNN for a beginner?

Thanks again,

NN69

Dreamweaver or it's little brother Contribute (www.adobe.com) are what we use. You can pick up a 1 version back copy cheap on ebay.

Both of these recommendations are good ones. As you get started, I would suggest editing the DNN-Blue skin included with the install rather than trying to create a new skin from stratch. After you get the hang of it you can start from an empty document.

Good luck!
