When I originally installed DotNetNuke a couple of years ago I wasn't interested in developing it so I used the standard Install package.

But now I have changed my mind and would like to do some development. I don't want to lose the few hundred pages that I have created. So my question is how do I go about converting my ordinary install into one that I can use with visual studio.net?

I'm currently on version  4.4.1

If you are talking about developing your own modules, you DO NOT need the source version of DNN.  Go to Michael Washington's site and read his excellent tutorials on the setup of the development environment and module development.  This is the site:  http://www.adefwebserver.com/dotnetnukehelp/
