Such an objective topic intuitiveness is.  What works for millions so easily doesn't work for a selection of only a few.  It is our goal to appeal to the millions, but I have never really received feedback on the icons until now.  Our project does not actually have a designer as part of our team, but we have adopted Nina who produced many of these icons.  We do want to make this as usual as possible but without some sort of legendI think any icon choices would fail in the eyes of at least a handful of our users.  For the real answer to your question though, there is a section on the icons in the modules user guide located on the project's download page.

Tooltip would be really nice.  I must be one of the few :)  as I didn't have a clue what the meanings were until looking at the documentation.  And really how many normal users are going to take the time to read the documentation no how the forum was designed.  I spend a lot of time reading through different forums and none of them use the same icon conventions.
