I'm faced with a challange here and need to create a module thal will display all the passwords of the portal in plain text to the user in charge.

Is there a simple way of aproaching it? How do I decrypt the existing passwords, etc.

Thanks,

Waldis

it should be possible using the business objects, as DNN does to retrieve the passwords to send them to the user. you will need to create a custom module to achieve this.

Thanks for your response. Could you guide me as to which project within the source is the one that does retrieve the password to send it to the user?

Thanks,

Waldis

I found

DotNetNuke.Entities.Users.UserInfo.Membership.Password()

which is supposed to get and set the password of the user, but it's returning an empty string!

Any ideas why?

If I could get that function to return the password I'd be in bidness...

If you are using a hashed password you will not be able to decyrpt the password since it is one-way encryption.  You can look at the web.config to see what encryption method you are using for password.  Just interested, why would you want to do this, sounds like a big security risk to me and if I was a user on the site I would not want you having my password even if you are the admin.  Most OS/programs do not allow this (example: Windows networks admins cannot view users passwords in AD to retrieve passwords, they just have to reset it if you forget your password).
