I am creating a team hosting website where various teams (from a game we play) can each have their own sub-portal. However, there will also be a general forum for all teams to chat in the parent portal.

The problem is that if they register in the parent portal, that username is no longer available for them to use in their specific team site. Is there a work around?

Actually, that username  is still available for them to use IF they register in their team site with the exact details they use in the parent portal (username, password and email). However, this is too complicated to non-technical users, so I'd recommend buying Onyak Portal Signup. Using it, you'll have an option to add a user to the parent portal automatically whenever they create their own portal.

Best regards,
Duc

so, this onyak portal signup will allow users to be registerd under 2 or 3 different portals concurrently.

Basically, a user may join one of the team sites (sub-portals),  and also join one of the group sites (also sub-portal) and also be registered in the parent portal without any problems... and of course they won't have access to subportals they are not registered on.

I just want to make sure I understand completely. Also, is this the only solution available?

Thanks,

Tony

Well, it's fairly correct, just one point : AFAIK, the Onyak module will just let users to be registered on 2 portals at a time. As with the others, they'll have to do it manually.

I think there are also some modules that let you share users between particular portals. Check out DNNMasters user sharing for more info.

Best regards,
Duc
