I made a terrible mistake a couple of days ago and copied over the web.config on a 4.0.3 and now none of the user accounts will allow login.  I managed to put the connection string back and make the site "work" again, so I know it's connecting to the database.

Can anybody give me any guidance?  Thanks so much, for bailing me out! :)

The basic problem is that you copied the (old | new??) web.config over, thus changing the machine keys that were specified in the web.config. You need to restore the machine keys to what they were previously to get logins working agin.
