I need some advice on the best way for skinning.

At present I am just editing the .htm and the .css files using text/dreamweaver and then uploading these into DNN.

What is the best way to do this? From what I have been reading people using the .ascx file seem to have more control over parameters.....Can it also be done in XML.

I did read the skinning document a while ago, but at the time not a lot made sense... maybe I need to revisit it.

I am happy to learn whatever I need to, I just need the advice which will give me the most adpatable and customiseable solution.

Thanks for your help.

hmmm.. reading the skinning guide again, i think what I asked is a silly question... it implies htm is just as good as ascx

A triple post by me..! Apologies.

Can you use Token attributes in the .html ?

If so what is the syntax ?

Thanks

My advice is to skip the Html and just edit the .ascx files directly.

That way you don't have to resort to figuring out the extra step of using the XML file to map your properties into the .ascx file.  You also won't have to learn the abstraction layer of what the tokens are.  Of course you will still need to find the proper user controls to apply the properties to, but that is easier in the .ascx file in my opinion becasue you don't have that extra abstraction from token to user control.

You can even rename an existing .ascx file with a .html extension if you wanted to open it in a designer, but I like to just edit them directly and view the changes in the browser with a refresh.

Thanks John. I have been playing with the XML attributes and it is not so bad actually. Not sure I trust myself to edit the ascx.

Is there any difference in what can be achieved using either method?

Thanks
