Hi,

currently I'm working on a CMS evaluation and I'd like to know if DNN fits the requirements:

Is DNN able to handle sites with about 25.000 pages. The size of 100.000 shouldn't be a problem either for the CMS.

A kind of an information portal should be realised incl. different extensions like Google Maps, Newsletter, Google Adsense, Gallery, Vids,... but no chat or forum.
Amount of users (registered): 20
page hits per day: 5000

I know that a lot depends on the server in the background. That's why I want to keep the discussion just on CMS size issues...

Thanks in advance
Stefan

Neglecting server configuration, I don't see any issues with DNN being able to handle something of that size....Even the hardware requirements wouldn't be "that" bad I don't think...

Having this large number of pages as DNN pages would require to develope your own management features, because e.g. ManageTabs lists all pages nested in a list box - which will be a pain with 25k pages or more, and also the menu will get slow.

I therefore suggest to use modules, that can collect pages and provide some kind of list end detail view.

Most of these 25.000 "pages" are news. These aren't usual pages like "About me", "Contact",....

So, the drop down box problem could be solved by using any kind of news extension, couldn't it?

Stefan

Also keep in mind that DNN is a portal framework and not a true CMS.  There aren't any really solid CMS modules for DNN that I've found (if anyone knows of any I'm very interested in finding them...), and nothing with a real integrated workflow process.  You might look at the XMod module for DNN, which could be used to create a decent CMS, or look at writing your own module.

It's not really the quantity of pages, it's what you are doing with them.  If these are just documents to be served based on a title/description, such as technical documents in PDF format, then there's not much to it as far as program or even system resources.  If these are dynamic pages that have to be created from a database, then the system will work harder and need more resources.
