Ok, all I can figure is that IIS is keeping the DB open because I run iisrestart and then I get the error BELOW. If I refresh, it goes back to tellin me it can't open the DB file.

NOTE: I DID follow the directions on the Welcome.html page that Visual Studio opened. I followed them word for word, and step by step. I still get errors.

AFTER RESET, BEFORE REFRESH:

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProviderSystem.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)

AFTER REFRESH:

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProviderSystem.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites\DotNetNuke Website3\App_Data\Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.

I also came across the object not set to an instance error, and for those of you who have seen that, just copy your SiteUrls.config file from your /config/ directory to your root directory (for site), then you should get to where I am. Heh.

Did you re assign the folder permission (for the asp.net user) after creating the database ?

If not you should try this.

There are two possiblitities here.

1. There is an issue with how Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Web Developer creates SQl Server Express Databases.

SQL Server Express Databases are restricted to one single user, so make sure that the "Connection" to the Database is closed before running as DNN uses a different User account than VS2005.

2.  SQL Server Xpress databases have the ability to Autoname themselves when attached (by default in the connection string).  Sometimes this doesn't work - and I can't find out why.  Add "Initial Catalog = xxxxxx;" to the Connection string where xxxxxx is a Unique name for your system.

I must say, I kicked myself in the teeth after fixing this one..

The solution is simple and I'm sure if anyone who has this same problem reads this, they'll kick themselves in the teeth. =P

In Microsoft Visual Studio, you do of course goto create a new web site using the DotNetNuke Starter Kit Template. Well, one thing to note is that it sticks it in the "My Documents" part of your current user account. If that just so happens to be the Administrator account you're logged on to, you need to move the files elsewhere because only another administrator ranked account can access the files in there. After copying the files over, it should work just fine when it goes to install. (Be sure to change the Virtual Directory Info!)

Heh.
