Alan:
I just wanted to give you an "atta boy" for all of the work you have been doing on this module. Too often, we the "users" (and that term definitely has meaning on multiple levels!) keep posting complaints about inconsequential little problems with the module. At best, all I've seen is that after someone posts a laundry list of complaints, they tack on a closing sentence saying something like, "By the way, thanks for the great work!". That's just lame! Hey, and I'd be a hypocrite if I said that I'm not guilty of it, either, so I'm truly sorry!
I've been subscribed to this forum for probably a year or more, so I'm always lurking out of sight and reading every message. I've been meaning to address this issue for a long time, and I apologize for not doing so sooner. It's become really apparent lately that there's a whole lot a whining going on about very minor issues. Again, I'll hold my hand up, too, and say that I've been one of abusers.
You've been remarkably patient. I'm impressed. I would have lost my temper months ago and at least thrown back some sarcastic responses to some of the complaintes about minutia. Heck, a large percentage of the time it's due to the user not using the module correctly or taking the time to browse through the settings.
It always gives me a chuckle when I see someone's post stating like, "Feature X doesn't work!" I'm going to sound a little like George Carlin here, but look, it's a complex module! Just because you haven't successfully used a particular feature doesn't mean that it's broken, pal! Use a little tact! State it more humbly like, "Hey, I'm having problems getting feature X to work on my system. Is there something that I haven't configured correctly?" That type of statement is more respectful to the programmer! Yes, there are real bugs that show up from time to time, but don't jump the gun! There's a very real possibility that you, the user, aren't using it correctly! Yes, this is the place to ask for help, but do it diplomatically!
Alan, I'm not sure what motivates you to take time away from your family and work on this project for free, only to be abused. Having said all of that, I want to give you a genuine and hearty THANKS!
Our organization has been using your version of events module since it was called "AV Calendar" and was only available on your web site. It's been very beneficial to us. We will continue to use it for the foreseeable future. You've been extremely generous by donating your module to the DNN cause.
Again, thank you for doing what you are doing! And hang in there, Champ!
See Ya,
Van
