On a server that I have other versions of DNN running I tried to install a fresh install of 4.5.0 and ran into several issues starting with no documentation for the new version, after fumbling around I finally used the entire path to the install wizard by going to http://localhost/DotNetNuke/Install/Install.aspx?mode=Install

The wizard began and worked great up until the db connection. I choose custom install and entered the db user and password and now I get the following error:

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 14
Number: 18456
Message: Login failed for user 'XXXXXXXX'.

I have created a new user for this database and made the user db_owner and giving the directory Network Service with r/w permissions.

This installation is on a W2k3 RC3 server using SQL 2005 with SP2 any suggestion would be appreciated, I know by the time I post this the answer will appear to me but since I have fumbling with this since yesterday I am now at a mind block.

Thanks!

My advice would be to look at the web.config file.  What did the installer put in for your connection string?  Is is right?  If not, you might need to tweak that...

There is a post in here somewhere relating to checking the run as dbo box.

The wizard never worked for me; to get this far I manually configured the connection string. This allowed me to get to the wizard and that is when I did the test connection and it failed.
