I copied over the files from the zip file, and edited the web.config...

Where have I gone wrong?

I have figured out that I inadvertantly copied to one level below the root.

I corrected that problem, but now have a new problem -- It appears I have to reload all the modules, and my images are missing.

I have gotten past the point where I had this error.  Now I'm getting "You don't have permission to see the files on the site" in the Site Settings screen.  (I'm trying to figure out why none of my images are showing up.)

1 of 2 things.

1.  DId the permissions change on your server to now allow the ASP.NET process to access the directory.

2.  Ensure in file manager that the proper view settings are configured for files on your site.

Those are at least the first two things that come to mind...

Going to File Manager and doing a recursive synchronization corrected the permission problem.

However, it still looks like I have to reload all the images, and modules.
