Hello,

I am trying to create a simple module following the steps outlined here:

http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/Creating_A_DNNModule.asp

However, after I add the module to my page, I get the error:

Error: JohnsModule is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. .....

I have tried creating a modules three times today and this always happens...I am using sql server 2005, all my other modules are working but when I try to create one, this is what happens....

ideas?

Thanks,

John

Check both connection strings are pointing to your database:

One is located in the web.config <connectionStrings> section.

The second one is located just below in the <appSettings> section.  I didn't really review the full document you linked to see why it uses one or the other connection string, as I use a different approach to module development.

You can download the source code here:

http://dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNuke/DNN4GuestBook/tabid/199/Default.aspx

You can compare it to your code.

I had not set the <appSettings> connection string.

Thanks--I do not understand why there are 2 connection strings:
1.  <connectionStrings>
2.  <appSettings>

I notice the modules that are part of DNN worked fine, but when I created a new module, it needs the connection string from the <appSettings>???  Where my module is the connection string referenced...ie. where does it get set?

Thanks much,

John

My projects use a 2nd project for SQLDataprovider, and it is set there, in the SQLDataProvider.CS or SQLDataProvider.VB file.
