Hi,

The layout of my website requires that I have two announcement modules side by side on the content pane. After a lot of Googling I have come to the conclusion that it cannot be done with the current version of DNN. I've been thinking of ways of getting around this and am busy exploring the following option: to create a module which has table of 2 columns. I will then have a link in each column which will call a rich text editor to allow the user to create his/her announcement which will be inserted in the correct column. I have found out that there is a Ftb3HtmlEditorProvider which should allow a module developer to call a rich text editor from his/her module. I am new to DNN and my experience of .NET (language: vb) is limited. I have been looking for sample code which can show me how I can go about calling an html editor in my vb code but to no avail. Please, please, help!

Thanks in advance.

Feels a but like you are over thinking things here.

Seems to me all you need to do is create a skin that  has two contentpanes  side by side.  Then you can put two modules side by side on any page you like.

As for the code option - have a look at the source code for the announcements module - or the source code for the Text/HTML module - both offer a pretty good starting point for coding the sort of thing you are trying to do.

But really - you are making a lot of hard work for yourself.

Hi Westa,

Thanks a lot for your reply. From my understanding, a skin can only allow 5 panes to be edited (header, footer, left, right & content pane). The first four panes already have use, I am only left with the content pane for my users to edit (unless it's possible to create more panes which can be edited - if this is so - PLEASE let me know). I can't seem to divide the the content pane into two sections so that I can place 2 modules side by side. If there's an alternative way to tackle this issue, I will really appreciate it.

There is no real limit in the number of content areas you can have - its all controlled by how you layout your skin.

You do need at least one call "ContentPane", so that the system knows where to render the Admin based pages - but apart from that you are free to layout your site however you want - and include any content panes that you want.

Have a look at the skinning documentation in the DNN documentation archive - for more info on how to make skins.
