I have used dot netnuke for a Univeristy project and I have to write a report about it. Can some one pelase help by answering the following questions I would really appreciated it.

1. Where are all the installed modules stored on the database and how can I view all the tabels of the dotnetnuke database?

2. When adding a module e.g. an annoucments a forum or a news page module, where is the data stored and how do the modules work? (When a user adds an anncoument where is that annocument stored in the database , in which entity, and how will I be able to show the stored data  to my tutor?)

3. I need to do a dataflow diagram  and a logical data diagram(to show the database enteties and their relationships) I need to know how where data is stored first and view it.

Finally when i installed dotnetnuke, I did not create a database myself I guess this is done in the installation process does dotnetnuke use database.mdf sto store data?

Many thanks to all of you,

Skips

  1. the installed module packages are stored in table ModuleDefinitions and DesktopModules
To view tables of the database use a tool like Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio or Visoual Studio
  2. The module instances are stored in tables Modules and TabModules, its data is hold in ModuleSettings and custom module tables (created on module package install)
E.g. if an Announcement is added, a new entry in table Announcements is created - you can see this easily using one of the tools mentioned before
  3. have fun creating the diagrams
  4. if you did not do manual adoptions, data is stored inside database.mdf, please read this post, how to access it.

I have added the database.mdf as described in the post that you have sent me and I can view the tables now, but I cannot access the dotnetnuke application anymore> I get the following error message:

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

and when i refressh the screen i get this error

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'TRP-0016\ASPNET'.

Did you do Step 3 properly to modify the connection string?  That is your problem.  Once you convert the database from a "User Instance" configuration the connection string MUST change in Web.config.

By the way, tell us more about the reaction of your professor to DNN.  What school are you attending?  Are you the only one doing the project on DNN or was it assigned to the whole class?
