DotNetNuke Version: 03.03.05
Forum Module Version: 3.20.08

I am having a problem where regular users (non-superuser)  do not receive email notifications to posts, however if the user is a SuperUser then the notifcation works normally. For example if a regular user creates a thread then a second regular user replies to the thread a notification email is not sent out; if a super user replies to the thread the email notification is sent out.

I have tested the forums module on a clean install of DNN 3.3.7 and everything worked fine so I am think there might be a problem with my production installation/configuration. Any idead what could be wrong?

I am having the same problem with version 3.20.08 of the forums running on a 4.x version of DNN.

I have narrowed my problem down by looking in the server logs.

I'm getting a "Ther server rejected the sender address. The server response was: 530 Authentication required."

I have upgraded to version 3.20.09 of the forums and I still have the same problem. I also have DNN 4.3.5 to be more specific.

I'm now working on editing the source of the forum module to use the sites SMTP config as a couple other users have done.

First, upgrade to 3.20.9 for security reasons. Second, there are some issues with notifications which are covered here and all I can offer is that its fixed in the version awating release. (No date posted for when this will happen, should be soon as the development is done)

I will keep a look out for the update, is there a mailing list I can subscribe to for the forums specifically for announcements  such as this?
