Well after getting my site 90% finished I decided to add a couple of fake users and try it out.

I noticed that after logging in as a user the one pict I had in my Eficon (sp?) Articles module had a red x instead of the pict. then whatever I clicked on after logging in the user would get logged off and resent to the log in page. I did some research on dnn.com and found a very large number of users had the same problem - some of which found the problem was with pictures in the  Eficon articles module. So I deleted the post in that module that had a picture and the problem was solved. Until I got to a page with a Linkmaster module on it. I have the main dashboard of my site that is nothing but a large Linkmaster module with image links. When logged in as a user or admin ALL of these images have red x's and when clicking on anything after that you get logged out and sent to the log in page. When logging in as the host there is no problem.  I also see in my log viewer that each time this happens I see a blue "Application Shutting Down" followed by a blue "Application Starting Up".

This is a child portal running on DNN 4.4.1.  It happens in both FF and IE.  In the DNN forums it seems to be happening across all versions of DNN back as far as 1/06 and as recent as 4/07 and many of the problems had to do with third party modules???  Here is the thread from DNN:  http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/27037/scope/posts/Default.aspx  with 119 posts!!!

Since I have problems with both Eficon Articles and Linkmaster and it has to do with pictures and this is happening on a child portal could this be something to do with how the modules are accessing the pictures?  Maybe I haven't got something configured right?  I find it hard to believe that both modules would have a problem with pictures. BUT.... I have core text/html modules with pictures in them and they work fine....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greg

My first guess would be to check on the folder security options for the folders where the files are stored to ensure that the proper permissions are granted.

Thanks for your reply Mitchel!

No that's not it - all folders/images are in the root folder and permissions are set to all users. Plus I would think that if permissions were the problem then the core text/html module would throw the error too.

And thirdly, I just loggin in as a user and got half the images to show up in my Linkmaster module and the other half had red X's.

It's not a compression issue as I have that turned off.  I also have the friendly URL's turned off.

One thing I haven't tried is logging on on a different machine.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just did some more testing -

If I log in as a regular user using Firefox I can see all of the images but it still logs me out after I hit that page. I tried IE 6 and IE 7 and Firefox with regular user, admin user, and host user. The only one that works is host user. And it works on all browsers.

Next I built a new page and put a media module with the image that was causing problems in Eficon, a text/html module with 5 icons that are in the Linkmaster module, and another linkmaster module with 5 or 6 of the icons that are causing problems in the other one.  All users using all browsers can see all of the images in all of the modules and don't get logged off when you hit the new page. As soon as I click from the new page to the original half of the images show up and half don't and you get logged off - unless you are the Host user.

I think next I will try moving the Linkmaster module from the page that has the problem to a new page.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have a feeling it is related to the module you are using.....you might contact the vendor.
