hmmm

well I'm not sure what the issue was, but I deleted the profile definitions and readded them via the nuke gui, and now it seems to work, so the problem appears to have been data related, rather than code related.

Thanks for your response, anyway

The DNN ProfilePropertyDefinition table contains a set of default profile properties; if you look at the table they all have NULL for the PortalId.  There is a second set of profile properites for the portal that is made at some point, perhaps when DNN is first launched.  Does anyone know when the second set is made?  I asume it is made using the "Clone" = True parameter on the new signature of the update profile properties method.  Perhaps these are made then when a new user is first registered?  Anyone know?
