I'm looking for another set of install docs or a mini install application written to properly install DNN4 using SQL2005.  I don't have any luck with the docs off of this site.

OK... I can see I'm not going to get any replies so I'll try this approach.

Given:
- OS: Windows 2003 Server
- DB: SQL 2005 Express
- App: DNN 4.0.2
- App Location: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke
- App Folder Permissions: Everyone FULL (Just to see if I can get this to work!) :)

- Server Name: Server1
- Database Name: DNN_DB
- IIS Virtual Directory: DNN
    - Set to use ASP.Net 2.0.50727 (used below command from start/run)
       -C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
    - Directory Security: "Enable anonymous" = yes
    - Execute Permissions: "Scripts and Executables"
    - Application pool: DefaultAppPool

- DB User: sa
- DB Password: DNN123
- DB Location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data

So with that can someone send me an edited web.config that will work?  :)

OK... now I'm getting the below...

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error
The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

etc. etc.

It sounds likes you need to setup your sql server to allow remote connections.  Open up your sql studio manager and check your DB settings.  are they set to local only?

Note: You need to do this using Surface Area Configuration tool (SQL Server 2005).
