Does anyone have any suggestions on free tutorials or how to's for designing your own skins? I was told the best place to start was with Microsoft's Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition which I have downloaded. Since I am a newby I was hoping to find some free video tutorials SOMEWHERE on the net but no such luck. Custom Skins are costly and since we are a non-profit organization and a small department $$ can be VERY limited at times so I figured I would try to build me own. Any thoughts/suggestions would be fantastic!

Mike, you might want to do a search on the term Nina. Unfortunately the DNN Forums search doesn't really work that well. I tried a search on skin tutorials and nothing came back. But I know that Nina talks about some tutorials in some of her replies on the forums.

She is also at www.xd.com.au and www.dnnskins.com and www.skincovered.com.

You can do a Google search on DNN Skin tutorials and get some good links to www.dnncreative.com and others.

But I have to say that you can get some really nice skins for less than $75 at Snowcovered and elsewhere. I have purchased thousands of dollars in public and custom skins and the developers nowadays are really putting out some good work for a fair price.

Some of my favorite skinners include:

Tyler Fawcett - www.tfdnn.com and winner of the first DNN skinning contest.

Tracy Wittenkeller - www.t-worx.com

Salar http://salaro.com/Default.aspx?tabid=402

http://www.dnnsoul.com/

Brian and Evan at http://www.nukeville.com/

http://www.dnnart.net

Jared at http://www.black-pond.com/Default.aspx?alias=www.black-pond.com/skins

Unless you really just want to learn DNN skinning and plan to use it to create multiple skins, I just would not bother. Get a packaged skin and if needed manipulate it to meet your needs. That is just my opinion.

Mike,

I know you asked for free tutorials. But if you want to learn how to skin from scratch, I just can't help recommend subscribing to DNN Creative Magazine over at http://www.dnncreative.com/. It's about 44$ a year, which will buy you acces to a bunch of video tutorials. That's how I got started.

Hi Mike,

YEP,,, Nina has some good videos at this link for you.

She also has quite a few free skins you can learn from.  Also, Tyler Faucett ( http://www.tfdnn.com/Free/Tranquility/tabid/73/Default.aspx ) has a really neat free skin I have used and modified very successfully.

Once you get a handle on this it actually gets pretty easy.

I also have Skincovered subscription and they are very helpful with skinning, but if you want free alternatives consider looking at free skins' code. That may give u an idea.
